I am having a groovy time with my friend Jann in our girl duo, Sounds Fabulous. Our first gig was on April 1st this year (2006). I had forgotten how much fun this could be.

Sounds Fabulous - our new girl duo brief biography...

This duo consists of two highly talented and dedicated members who sat together one balmy Tuesday evening (with copious amounts of tequila and reminiscing about the good old days – yes? We’ve all been there…). The idea of a girl duo was born, nurtured and turned into a reality in a very short space of time. The girls run very successful businesses, all related to the entertainment industry : we have an entertainment/booking agent and the co-owner of a recording company and a music backing track company. Coupled to this, they collectively have almost 30 years experience in the live entertainment industry.

JANN has performed in theatrical stage shows (lead for CAPAB in Fiddler on the Roof and lead for WITS in The Boyfriend), impersonations (Alison Moyet and Cher), live band work, recording and drama. She received 8 years vocal training with Joyce Barker at Wits University covering classical, opera, light voice and stage production. She has performed as far afield as Hong Kong, Malaysia, UK, neighbouring African countries Botswana and Swaziland, and of course, all over South Africa. Jann’s rich, deep voice is easily recognised all over. She has an incredible stage presence – as anyone who has ever seen her perform will testify to.

ALLY started off with fringe theatre, moving on to musical theatre in the early 90’s (Jesus Christ Superstar and Helen of Troy), and finally worked with live bands and duos as frontline vocalist. She has studied speech & drama, dance, classical piano and also received vocal training. Over the years, Ally has performed with a 5-piece rock band, numerous duos, and as a solo musician. She has performed at 100’s of venues in and around Johannesburg at pubs and for corporate functions. Ally is vibrant and charming on stage, giving a sassy and classy performance.
